Stimming with a Chewy toy

I have been stressed a lot lately and my window of tolerance got smaller as result of it.
When this happens, I am now really conscious of what happens in my body. And sensory seeking behaviours are under my radar…
I have been biting my skin around my nails A LOT and felt the increasing need to clench and bite. And I know this happens when I am highly nervous or stressed.
So, this is not surprising to me anymore and instead of resisting this sensory need, I have learnt to give myself permission to meet my need 🙂.
When I was working with autistic children, I would suggest parents to introduce a chewy toy instead of telling them “stop biting!”. And one day I have asked myself “why am I not using one of those??? Let’s try! 🤔”
You have no idea of how happy I am that I did try it!!!! This amazing chewy has helped me in sooooo many moments!
Even when I feel like that I am both under and overstimulated at the same time - mind blowing but it does actually happen and it is frustating to say the least 😅
So….. I hope you can give yourself permission to meet your needs. Stim and chew away my friends!
P.s. Stimming is the most natural act of self-regulation.
Giving yourself permission to self-regulate means practicing self-love 🙃
